Metamorphosis" is the second published monograph by Californian-born visual artist Tavar Zawacki – and the first under his real name. At the time of his first publication "Passport", the artist went by the name ABOVE street and was considered one of the pioneers and first influencers of the street art movement. In 2014, the artist moved to Berlin and went into a deep and creative introspection that led him to reveal his name and face the next year, instead of a high secret, that always surrounded him. It was known that he never attended any of its openings and asserted anonymity as the main virtue and shadows as a tool. "Metamorphosis" covers the last 3 years of Tavar Zawacki's creative work, from his seminal exhibition "Remix" in 2014 in Detroit at the Inner State Gallery to his most recent and ambitious exhibition yet at the Urban Spree Gallery in September 2017. The book covers all of his outdoor murals during this period, illustrating how the artist moves between his indoor and outdoor works and their influences. "Metamorphosis" is a very personal account of Tavar's creative process and thinking, where painful disruptions are necessary to create something new and meaningful. Tavar Zawacki (1981) is a contemporary artist living in Berlin, born in California. Tavar Zawacki, under his then street name ABOVE, was one of the main pioneers and influencers in the development of the Street Art movement in Paris in 2001. His dissemination of the arrow icon paved the way for later generations of street artists to use iconography, logos, and abstract artwork on the street. Over the past 20 years, Tavar Zawacki has distributed his artwork in more than 100 cities in 50 countries around the world. His style is characterized by the use of bold colors, geometric patterns, elements of Op art and illusory trompe l'oeil effects. Tavar Zawacki has been exhibiting his work in galleries and institutions around the world since 2005. He was the artist-in-residence of the Urban Spree
